The Playa Grande corridor

In February 2026 the Dominican government authorized a private international airport at Playa Grande, roughly 20 km east of Cabrera along the Río San Juan–Cabrera highway. This is the single largest infrastructure event in this corridor in decades, and it deserves a straight explanation rather than a sales pitch.

    What is confirmed.

Decree 115-26, signed on 19 February 2026, authorizes the Aeropuerto Internacional de Playa Grande. It is a private, non-commercial airport — private international flights only; regular commercial air transport is explicitly barred. The promoter is Fincas Serranía S.R.L. The investment is tied to roughly US$1 billion at Playa Grande, a project associated with Discovery Land Company, Aman, Third Point and Alex Rodríguez, alongside the existing Amanera resort and the Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf course later refined by Rees Jones. A groundbreaking ceremony has been held.

    What is not confirmed.

There is no funded completion date. The decree authorizes construction; it does not set a timeline, and several agencies — IDAC, the environment ministry, CESAC, DNCD and Public Works — still gate it. Anyone telling you a date is guessing.

    03

What it means for a buyer.

An airport of this type serves a very specific clientele: people flying privately into a golf and resort enclave. It does not bring commercial traffic, and it does not by itself create rental demand in Cabrera. What it does is signal where serious capital believes this coastline is going — and it puts a hard floor under the quality of what gets built nearby.

    04

What we will not tell you.

That prices will rise by a specific percentage. That you should buy now before it is too late. We do not know the timeline, and neither does anyone selling you a unit.
